China's Chigo Group's Foshan Zhonggewei Electronics has selected ON Semiconductor's NCP1027 high-voltage switcher to power new Chigo air-conditioner line to achieve higher active-mode efficiency and lower standby power consumption.

"The NCP1027 fully meets our requirements for energy-efficient air-conditioners because it offers higher efficiency, lower standby power, reliability and stability, wider input voltage range and better protection performance in smaller size and lighter weight."

According to ON Semiconductor, the NCP1027 offers a new solution for Chigo air-conditioners at 10W output power level. The company's proprietary skip-cycle operation enables air-conditions to run at low peak currents. Its high-voltage technology features a built-in 700V MOSFET with a startup current source, all directly connected to the bulk capacitor. To prevent lethal runaway in low input voltage conditions, an adjustable brown-out circuitry blocks the activity until sufficient input level is reached. Current-mode operation together with adjustable ramp compensation offers superior performance.
